SMILE, which refers to the Surface of Multimodal Interaction for Legible Entertainment, is an independent installation art project which was done in various locations on the campus of the University of Tokyo. Using object-tracking, detecting algorithm and camera, the smile system captures and recognizes the motion and face of people and uses those to render an interactive animation on the physical surface. I envision the SMILE system would be able to redefine relationships between people and information and make diverse people engaged in entertainment and visual communication.
